means. Is it Las Vegas? No. Love and Victory? Not really. The number It's our secret, a symbol. When I salute Rene during a show or when I go
on television, I always make our sign for him, by making an L with my index finger and thumb and the

I've been speaking very freely to the media—Rene

misgivings, our joys and sorrows, our feelings, and even about our arguments.
Almost everything that we do somehow ends up known, in one way or another, We
believe that the best way to avoid being harassed by the paparazzi is to be faster
than they are and beat them to the punch. She who serves herself is best
served. So, in a way, we are our own paparazzi. The media assumes that the public is fascinated by stars. I'm sure that's
true, but the media also wants us to believe that the public is curious to know
what celebrities own. How many bathrooms and houses they have and how much
money they earn. In this way, I think the media is deceived, and deceives
people, by creating a false relationship between the stars and the public. I'm
convinced that people are more interested in the smaller details of life.
During my shows, between songs, I've always talked about what's happening in my life. Every time I bring up the subject of shopping, for example, and talk about the pleasure I get from trying on new dresses or shoes or discovering a new beauty cream, all the women in the house laugh and applaud. Each time that I talk about the pleasure a woman feels in making a meal for her husband, there's the same reaction. The simplest and most common things of life—that's what people like to hear about.
When they come to see me after a show or in the letters they write to me, people tell me their dreams. And it's never been about taking the Concorde, nights at the Beverly Hills Hotel, or evenings with Barbra Streisand or Prince Charles.
