When she came to our place,
she spoke to me the most, probably because of the closeness of our ages. We'd
both go up to the girls' room. We'd listen to music for hours. She'd watch me
sing before the big mirror that Ghislaine no longer used because she, also, had
moved out of the house. Soon Papa, Maman, and I
were the only ones left. After being the youngest in a family of fourteen
children, I'd finally become an only child.
Maman was still working outside the house. But now she had a big plan to turn me into a singing star. She'd never been very interested in my homework and school lessons. But she'd followed my singing progress closely. She gave me advice, she suggested I try new songs. Or she said to me: "Don't imitate that singer, she has a beautiful voice but she doesn't make good use of it."
